Parkour City - BETA finally

Hi. Finaly with exactly 2 years delay (should be spring 2014 --> is spring 2016) Parkour City (unfinished) BETA is on-line. As I was saying in that 2,5 years video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3nCK57eCco) - This map which was started in early 2012 and almost finished in late 2013 - was planned to be on-line in spring 2014 (as you can see in the video) - but it was few months before I knew what's gonna happen to GameSpy. As you know last 2 years were quite busy because of CryMP.Net network works, websites, maps and mods just for network. So it was no reason to finish (FPS killing) Parkour City even as Beta during that time. I even though I'd never put this huge and borring map on-line here. Finally - I need to retire for a while - and I wanted to finish some old stuff - I've decided to prepare quite optimized version and start it on server for a while - even though it's playable with nice FPS ONLY on quite strong PCs. Sorry. WARNING - It's VERY BORRING MAP - IT'S NOT FOR FIGHTING or FAST ACTIONS. Definitely not recomended for people who don't like wall jumping, exploration or don't care about Very High graphics in Crysis. Please do not enter if you look for fighting, do not have patience or at least quite strong PC. Thanks. APOLOGY for ALL players with weak PCs.

Main Ideas for the map in 2012/2013 were:

1 - wall jump & parkour all over the city 2 - look for 50 suitcases and capture all 50 flags 3 - explore on foot, use cars and flying vehicles for precision landing training 4 - Discover idividual ways to climb all buildings. 5 - Talk, realax, have fun. Seems borring but this is the way it is.

Map is going to be on-line always on this server: "<FP> PARKOUR & EXPLORATION"

WARNING 2 !! Here are problems you NEED TO KNOW before trying to join. 1. Map is pretty heavy (around 100 MB) - so prepare for some patience while long downloading. (sometimes even 1-5 minutes before you join. Don't worry it's normal) 2. You may experience some server or disconnect problems. If so - it's probably temporary. 3. You can choose between 2 parkour teams: "Standard" and "Realism/Advanced". The second one doesn't let you use HUD and Nanosuit powers, only chat and armor wall jumping. So better always choose "US/Standard" Team before you leave :) Sorry for this but this is only BETA. Ready for testing.

Here's that 2,5 old video of Alpha version (December 2013)

And few random photos of this BETA.

Well, Nothing to envy from CryEngine3! :D (Except for all those improvements Crytek have made, and all that amazing cinematic and pipeline stuff they added; depth of field and so on). But anyway, more than two years of work? Do you create textures and geometry? Also I noticed that sound effects are little modded. Am I right? If so... Astonishing... You're very skilled. Congratulations. I just logged in to comment. xD Greets.

I also wanted to design and build my own city, a few years ago. But due to legal complications; all derivative works made with CryEngine belong to Crytek. So... Lost a dream. :( :'( Plus, I would need a lot of money. Hahaha!

Cryengine 3 is not worth working with in my opinion. I wanted to start it long ago but I couldn't see the point of it. ... and answering your questions. Nope. Not 2 years of work at all. The thing is 2 years ago in Spring 2014 I was about to put it on-line as beta (was almost ready) but because suddenly I've found out GameSpy is going to die I stopped working on Parkour City and moved to Crysis1.com + CryMP.Net works + all smaller maps and mods just to fit CryMP.Net. This is why I wasn't doing ANYTHING with Parkour City for last 2 years. Anything at all. But creating this map took few months of 2012 (I've started the project in spring) and few months of 2013. This is why you can watch that old video of 2013 - with Alpha version of the map. Almost the same as this BETA. But 90% of works were made in 2013 and it was few months of work - not 2 years :) But sure 2 years delay - means that exactly 2 years ago it would be on-line if not GameSpy death and CryMP.Net birth which changed my way of thinking about what has priority first :) You are right. Crytek and EA owns this stuff. So this is why it can't be sold. But it's not being made for money - so it's great they gave this amazing tool like Sandbox 2. They are not giving free editors anymore. I'm sure they will never do that again. It's advanced enough to make cool things with CryEngine 2. The problem is - huge maps like Parkour City and detailed at the same time are hard for PCs and hard to optimize them. But medium maps with details and stuff which really works there are possible to create. If you want to make 100% own things you need to learn Unity Engine or Unreal Engine. Sure you need to pay for some tools, objects there but at least all you make with is going to be yours. The only problem is you would need to make multiplayer game for your things using those engines to play with others - which is still a bit hard and lot of work. This is why I still didn't switch to those engines. I would make maps there but for single player - that doesn't make sense for me at all. Better explore Crysis MP, parkour maps with 2 other friends than play alone on things made with new engines. You asked about modded sounds. I don't think so. Well I've added few sounds there (to add 100% modded sounds of original sound like removing NK or US voices during capture - you need to have client side modding). I've also added my music for Advanced WJ(if you choose NK team to play) - but it's hard to play with no hud, no powers and that music playing in background - so better to play just as US team :) You ask if I've created textures and geometry. Textures yes - I made few and I've added custom colors, text on signs and things like that. But geometry ? - not on this map. The idea was to show how much you can make just using objects from Crysis and Crysis Wars. Without using any other software - just Sandbox 2 and Photoshop. But I've been making custom objects and buildings for future maps already. Still are not on-line because I stopped that the same reason I wasn't working on Parkour City for 2 years. But I will work on custom maps with at least 90% custom objects and 100% custom buildings for sure. Just for myself even though nobody plays it. I already have few custom buildings. Probably next year I'm going to work on that just for fun of 100% custom things. Maybe even all textures taken from real life photos. Anyway Parkour City is all made with things you've got in Crysis/Crysis Wars. No extra objects or custom vehicles (which has to be dowloaded and installed like other mods on client side). This is the point of it :) Only Crytek's creations and my ways to use them. Limitation is creativity. Sorry that this beta can crash sometimes. I've removed 3.000 bushes and many trees to make it more playable. But still - it's only BETA and at least it's on-line finally. Right now in the evenings and weekends ready to join to jump and fly :) Saturday I was there 4 hours. Gonna be there on friday again. Even alone looking for places to jump there is fun.
